So here’s a two part tutorial showing how to create a simple neon light and then animating it to blink on/off in sequence. Part 1 covers the creation of the neon sign and materials. Part 2 covers the Xpresso and COFFEE animation.

After I finished recording the tutorial I had an epiphany and realised that if you swap all the “True” and “False” in the COFFEE script you can do away with the condition nodes.

Here’s a screen capture of the Xpresso node layout

And here’s the C.O.F.F.E.E. script -

 main()
 {
 if(Input1 == 6)
 {
 Output1 = TRUE;
 }
 else Output1 = FALSE;
 if(Input1 == 12)
 {
 Output2 = TRUE;
 }
 else Output2 = FALSE;
 if(Input1 == 18)
 {
 Output3 = TRUE;
 }
 else Output3 = FALSE;
 if(Input1 == 24)
 {
 Output4 = TRUE;
 }
 else Output4 = FALSE;
 if(Input1 == 30)
 {
 Output5 = TRUE;
 }
 else Output5 = FALSE;
 }
